Drumming Workshop, with Ben Paulding of Kotoko Brass

Presented by Cultural Center of Cape Cod at Cultural Center of Cape Cod

Presented by the Cultural Center of Cape Cod on Wednesday, June 8, from 7-8:30pm. Learn to play traditional rhythms from Ghana with Kotoko Brass drummer Ben Paulding. Originally from Yarmouthport and an alumni of DY High School, Ben lived in Kumasi, Ghana for years where he studied at the Center for National Culture and performed for Ghanaian presidents, kings, queen-mothers, and paramount chiefs. In this hands-on drumming workshop, Ben will share some of the beautiful traditional West African rhythms that inspire the music of his band, Kotoko Brass. Participants will play authentic Ghanaian instruments, including the gankogui iron double bell, the axatse gourd rattle, and the kpanlogo hand drums. During the workshop, we will learn about the role, playing technique, and repertoire of each instrument, and will culminate with a fun performance of Kpanlogo drumming music from Ghana.
