Join us for this 2-day intensive workshop with Painter Elaine Tata.
Presented by the Cultural Center of Cape Cod on Saturday, June 4, and Sunday, June 5, 10am-3pm. Join us for this 2-day intensive workshop with Painter Elaine Tata. Explore the magic of painting in oil and cold wax medium or CWM. Cold wax medium is composed of mainly beeswax, with a small amount of solvent to soften it. It has a soft, paste-like consistency (like frosting) at room temperature and dries to a matte surface. Unlike encaustic processes, CWM requires no heat. CWM adds body to oil paint, speeds up drying time, and allows light movement in your paintings, giving a luminous surface, allowing artists to build up beautiful textural effects and layers. The class will cover all the basics to understand how and why you might want to incorporate CWM into your artistic practice. Compositions from small studies in semi-abstract to abstract still life and landscapes will be completed, leading to larger oil and cold wax works. A materials list will be sent. Until further notice, students in all Cultural Center classes will be required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test conducted within 72 hours prior to the class. $160/$140 for members. Register at www.cultural-center.org or call 508-394-7100. The Cultural Center is located at 307 Old Main Street in South Yarmouth.
