“Ireland’s Finest Tenor” Anthony Kearns, in Concert

Sunday, March 27, at 3:00pm. Anthony is well known around the world as "Ireland’s finest tenor" and is a founding member of The Irish Tenors (of PBS fame) that took the American television audience by storm in 1999. His international solo career includes high-profile celebrity engagements, television appearances, concert tours, and collaborations with the finest orchestras, including the Boston Pops, the Chicagoland Pops, Grand Rapids (MI) Pops, and the National Symphony Orchestra at the 2014 National Memorial Day Concert.  His program at the Cultural Center will include a mix of American folk songs, Irish ballads, opera/light opera, Viennese and Neapolitan songs, art songs, spirituals, and more. The songs that Mr. Kearns typically performs include: The Old House, She Moved Through the Fair, Grace, Shelter Me, Over the Rainbow, Kitty of Coleraine, Danny Boy, The Meeting of the Waters, You Raise Me Up, Funiculi Funiculi, O Sole Mio, Glocca Morra, Bring Him Home, To Do Your Will, Loveliest Night of the Year, So Deep is the Night, Gortnamona, Goodbye, Waltz of My Heart, Vienna, City of Dreams, Mattinata by Leoncavallo, Beautiful Dreamer, Amazing Grace, Shenandoah, Isle of Hope, Isle of Tears, Nearer My God To Thee, How Great Thou Art, When Irish Eyes Are Smiling, Because, I Believe, Isle of Inisfree, Bird Songs at Eventide, and Mary of Argyle. Mr. Kearns made his official U.S. Grand Opera debut as the lead tenor in the role of "Edgardo" in Gaetano Donizetti's Lucia di Lammermoor with Opera Naples, FL. Since then, he has starred as: Don Jose in the Dun Laoghaire/ Rathdown Glasthule Opera Company's production of Georges Bizet's “Carmen”; the lead tenor with the Royal Dublin Society in “The Lily of Killarney” (part of "The Irish Ring" trilogy) which toured North America; the lead tenor for "Don Ottavio," in Mozart's “Don Giovanni” at the Lismore Music Festival; and others. Upon moving to the U.S., Kearns returned to Opera Naples as the lead tenor in Charles Gounod's “Faust,” a role he also performed with Opera Ireland (nominated for Best Production in the Irish Times Theater Awards). Other roles include Fenton in Giuseppe Verdi's “Falstaff” (in Montepulciano, Italy) and Norino in Donizetti's most-performed opera, “L'elisir d'amore,” with Gulfshore Opera in Naples, FL, among others. Kearns has performed in the most prestigious venues around the world, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House. He has also performed for three U.S. presidents and for Pope Francis at a pre-Mass Concert in Philadelphia. He recently released his first solo album, “With a Song in My Heart." This will be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to hear him perform in an intimate setting: The Cultural Center’s acoustically stellar Constantinidis Great Hall. Tickets are $50/$40 for members. The Center's main parking lot is at the rear of the campus off Union Street, with overflow parking in the town lot on the corner of Old Main and Union Street or down Mill Street. The accessible parking spaces are near the accessible ramp entrance at the rear of the campus.
