A historical lecture on women in Duxbury during the maritime period of 18th and 19th centuries will be a free virtual event on Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. sponsored by the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth.
Women at Sea
Women’s roles in sea voyages and the booming shipbuilding community of Duxbury, Mass., in the late 18th and early 19th centuries will be presented at a live virtual lecture Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. by the Historical Society of Old Yarmouth.
The lecturer will be Carolyn Ravenscroft, archivist and historian for the Duxbury Rural and Historical Society, who has been researching the voyages and stories of the wives, mothers and sisters of the maritime families of Duxbury. She has discovered more than 33 Duxbury women from 1809 to 1890 and has been able to personalize their stories.
The first in the historical society’s winter lecture series is free but registration is required through the society’s website, www.hsoy.org/events. This event is co-sponsored by the Cultural Center of Cape Cod.
