Celebrating Indigenous Peoples Day

Presented by Addison Art Gallery at Addison Art Gallery

We hope you can join us for an exhibition of new works, to meet our newest artist, David Kooharian, and to chat with Paul Batch, Jonathan Earle, Andrea Petitto, Amy Sanders, Paul Schulenburg, and Cleber Stecei who plan to attend our reception from 4:00 to 6:00.

Weather permitting, Paul Batch will be demonstrating oil painting on the gallery lawn.

The exhibition will include portrait studies of Danielle Greendeer, a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Nation, completed by Paul Schulenburg and others.

A portion of sales from the day will be donated to the Native American Rights Fund, the nonprofit legal organization defending the rights of Native Americans. Collectors will also receive a Palo Santos stick bundle prepared by Marcus Hendricks, an indigenous professional who provides education on the history and traditions of his cultural heritage as well as creates and distributes handmade Wampum jewelry, traditional indigenous items, and culturally sustainable foods.

“Indigenous Peoples’ Day recognizes that Native people are the first inhabitants of the Americas, including the lands that later became the United States of America. And it urges Americans to rethink history.” —Smithsonian Magazine
