Immerse yourself in the beaches, woodlands and gardens of New England and Cape Cod as seen through the eyes of Maryalice Eizenberg and Sharon McGauley. Two accomplished oil painters, working in different but beautifully complimentary styles, offer their unique and inspired perspectives on the land and sea made with color and light.

Meet the artists on Saturday, August 21

Maryalice Eizenberg is an award-winning artist, raised surrounded by a family of musicians supportive of her interest in the visual arts. She has been drawing and painting all of her life. She completed coursework at the Worcester and Springfield Fine Arts museums, earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree at Clark University, and studied with painters John Cosby, Donald Demers, Kim English, Daniel Keys, Gregg Kreutz, Joseph Paquet, and Charles Sovek. Dramatic patterns of light and color are what attract her most to a subject. It is her emotional response to these elements that she strives to share with the viewer.

Eizenberg has been featured in Cape Cod Life and Chatham magazines and The Creative Spirit, Art in Chatham’s Old Village. Her work also appears in Contemporary Cape Cod Artists: People and Places by Deborah Forman.

She teaches at the Creative Arts Center in Chatham, and is a member of Oil Painters of America, and Twenty One in Truro. Her work has been shown in museums on and off the Cape. Her work is held in private collections in the United States, Europe and Japan.

Artist’s Statement
Realism that excites has a foundation in abstraction of design. A pattern of light that makes form, saturates color and creates mood holds it together and tells a story. It is the story that is the bond between the artist and the audience.

Sharon McGauley, an internationally collected artist, has earned multiple grants (including the Ann McKee Fund, several Art Reach Fellowships, and a Rodel Foundation Fellowship) and a residency at the Espy Foundation in Washington State. She studied art at Connecticut College with Barkley Hendricks and Andrea Wollensak and continues to study and work with master painters. Sharon paints plein air and in her studio.
She lives in Portland, Maine and spends a lot of time in her family home on Cape Cod.

Her work has shown in numerous solo and juried shows across the country, and has been featured in a solo show at the Key West Custom House Museum. McGauley paintings can be found in prestigious collections in the US, Canada, Europe and Japan.

Artist’s Statement
Land and seascape paintings are, for me, about capturing a sense of place. The experience of solitude is the starting point; the sense of being alone and engulfed by the landscape is one I frequently seek out. I am especially drawn to places where the sea meets the sky in such a way that you can’t tell where one ends and the other begins. I seek out dramatic weather and lighting conditions. I love hazy days when the ocean melts into the sky, watching a thick fog roll in, snowstorms, and experiencing the changes in light when a summer storm comes through. I am always searching for something different in the atmosphere that shifts and changes the mood of a place; it allows me to play with that feeling and recreate it as I paint or push it even further in the studio.
