The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster presents Bird Carving Demonstration with Michael R. Harnett Tuesdays, June – July (EXCEPT July 13) 1pm-4pm.
Join Cape Cod wildlife woodcarver, Michael Harnett, in the scenic Marshview Room at the Museum to observe a rare demonstration on how a simple block of wood transforms into a beautiful bird! Ask questions and enjoy the Eldridge Arnold carving workshop exhibit!
Mike is an award-winning wood carver, having won Blue Ribbons in competitive art and wood carving shows in New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts. A book on “How to Carve Characters in Wood”, by Andy Anderson, a well-known American caricature carver, excited the teenage Michael, and he began carving caricatures of cowboys, golfers, runners, and others. His knowledge and love of nature, biology, and wildlife - especially of fresh and saltwater ducks - was enhanced by his college studies, his work creating artifacts for the American Museum of Natural History in NYC, and his own continuing study and refinement of his wood carving techniques.
