Artisans’ Trail Hits the Town of Sandwich this Summer

Artisans’ Trail Hits the Town of Sandwich this Summer

Presented by Sandwich Arts Alliance at Sandwich Arts Alliance Center & Gallery

The Sandwich Arts Alliance (SAA), in collaboration with local businesses will be adorning the Town of Sandwich with another Adirondack Chair Trail (ACT). This summer 26 authentic Adirondack chairs, each uniquely decorated by an accomplished SAA artist, will be on display throughout the town from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  A “sneak peek” of the finished chairs before they are installed at their locations will be held at the SAA Center & Gallery, 124 Route 6A, Sandwich on Saturday, May 22nd from 11 am to 4 pm. An ACT Map and more information will be available at the SAA Center & Gallery, the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center, and at each of the 26 sponsors’ locations.

“With the combination of artists looking for work, businesses excited to welcome customers back to their locations, and a public more than ready to get out and about, a second Adirondack Chair Trail seemed like the perfect way to invite the public to visit the beautiful town of Sandwich”, enthused ACT team member Diane Ranney.

“We are so excited to be launching the 2021 Adirondack Chair Trail over Memorial Day Weekend! This project has been a leap of faith for our business sponsors and our artists who made the commitment to participate back in the fall when many had been experiencing months of hardship due to the pandemic”, explains Development Team Lead and Event Manager Kathy Aubin. “With their encouragement, we decided to proceed, and we are now able to showcase the stunning work of our artists and to help drive traffic to our local businesses throughout the summer. It’s a collaboration that directly benefits the entire community.”

A 2021 Adirondack Chair Trail Map and more information will be available at the SAA Center & Gallery, the Sandwich Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center, and at each of the 26 sponsors’ locations beginning Memorial Day Weekend. Chairs will be found in the Village, as well as East Sandwich and South Sandwich so that residents and tourists alike can discover all the wonderful shops and organizations around the Town.

Geared to entertain all age groups, there will be family and kids’ events including a Mini Adirondack Chair Painting Contest and an Adirondack Chair Coloring Book Contest with weekly prizes awarded throughout the summer.

After Labor Day Weekend, the chairs will be auctioned off at a festive event with proceeds supporting the arts and cultural programming in Sandwich. For more information visit the Sandwich Arts Alliance Website at www.sandwichartsalliance.org.

SAA would like to thank its funding partner, the Sandwich Visitor Services Board, for their generous support.
