Do It@Home: Creative Mindfulness

Presented by Cotuit Center for the Arts at Cotuit Center for the Arts

For creative people, meeting each day and every project with interest, enthusiasm and energy may at times feel challenging. Mindfulness can provide tools that may help us meet that challenge by invigorating our outlook, supporting our creative work and fostering connectedness while nurturing our artistic selves. Creative Mindfulness is an 8-week MBSR* program targeting the stresses inherent in a life of creativity-on-demand and opening us to the possibilities in the ever-changing landscape of our creative professions.
MBSR is an 8-week evidence-based program designed to provide training in mindfulness meditation and movement practices. First created by Jon Kabat-Zinn, Ph.D., in 1979, MBSR has over 40 years of research that consistently demonstrates positive outcomes associated with increased self-awareness and emotional and attentional regulation. In addition, outcomes highlight statistically significant reductions in symptoms for various physical and behavioral health conditions including anxiety, depression and chronic pain, along with positive changes in risk factors that may lead to more serious chronic ailments.

Included in this class is an “All-Day” Mini-Retreat session on Saturday, May 1 — an intensive 7.5 hour period of mindfulness practice intended to assist applying the program’s elements to the many daily life challenges — both personal and professional — beyond the conclusion of the 8-week course.
