Ceramics: Hand-built Serving Pieces, with Corrinn Jusell

Ceramics: Hand-built Serving Pieces, with Corrinn Jusell

Presented by Meetinghouse Clay Center at Meetinghouse Clay Center

This class will focus exclusively on hand-building techniques, such as slab, coil, and pinch methods in order to make our serving ware. In this class we will create functional pieces to serve different foods and drinks using hand-building techniques.  This may also include accessories, such as cups or ladles to aid in the making or serving of a particular meal or beverage.

Students will help guide the direction of the class by creating a menu on the first class. We will start with berry bowls and platters and perhaps work our way over to the perfect margarita pitcher. We can look forward to a day not too far down the line when we can share festive meals together made on our pandemic serving ware.

This class is appropriate for beginner through intermediate clay students. We will introduce the basics of working with clay, and support those students who have the basics, but are looking to hone their skills before moving to a more advanced hand-building and design class.

All classes include 25 pounds of clay, and the glazing and firing of those 25#. Additional clay may be purchased if needed. Beginner tool kits may be purchased for $24.

Classes also include ample access to the studio during posted open studio hours. Ceramics is an art form that benefits from practice and social time outside of class time.

The Meetinghouse Clay Center classes are limited to six students. The center adheres to CDC and Commonwealth of Massachusetts Covid-19 protocols for social distancing and face coverings, and has hand-washing and sanitizing stations.
