Mystery and Crime Fiction with Steph Cha, Elizabeth Hand, Rachel Howzell Hall, and Dan Chaon

Join us for a panel discussion with Steph Cha, Elizabeth Hand, Rachel Howzell Hall, and Dan Chaon on reading and writing crime/mystery fiction. There will be an hour discussion followed by an audience Q and A. This talk will be held over Zoom.

Author Bios:

Steph Cha:
Steph Cha is the author of Your House Will Pay, winner of the Los Angeles Times Book Prize and the California Book Award, and the Juniper Song crime trilogy. She’s a critic whose work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, and the Los Angeles Review of Books, where she served as noir editor, and is the current series editor of the Best American Mystery & Suspense anthology. A native of the San Fernando Valley, she lives in Los Angeles with her family.

Elizabeth Hand:
Elizabeth Hand is the bestselling author of fourteen genre-spanning novels and five collections of short fiction and essays. Her work has received multiple Shirley Jackson, World Fantasy and Nebula Awards, among other honors, and several of her books have been New York Times and Washington Post Notable Books.

Rachel Howzell Hall:
Rachel Howzell Hall, author of the critically acclaimed novel And Now She’s Gone and the Anthony Award-, Lefty Award- and ITW-award nominated They All Fall Down (Forge), writes the acclaimed Lou Norton series, including Land of Shadows, Skies of Ash, Trail of Echoes, and City of Saviors.
The third in the Lou Norton series, Trail of Echoes, received a coveted Kirkus Star and was one of Kirkus Reviews ‘Books That Kept Us Up All Night.’ Land of Shadows and Skies of Ash were included on the Los Angeles Times’ “Books to Read This Summer”, and the New York Times called Lou Norton “a formidable fighter—someone you want on your side.” Lou was also included in The Guardian’s Top 10 Female Detectives in Fiction.
Rachel is also the co-author of The Good Sister with James Patterson, which was included in the New York Times bestseller The Family Lawyer. She is currently on the board of directors for the Southern California chapter of Mystery Writers of America and is a Pitch Wars mentor for 2020. She lives in Los Angeles. Dan Chaon
Dan Chaon’s most recent book is Ill Will, a national bestseller that was named one of the best books of 2017 by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, NPR, Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, Kirkus Reviews, and Publishers Weekly. Other works include the short story collection Stay Awake, a finalist for the Story Prize; the national bestseller Await Your Reply; and Among the Missing, a finalist for the National Book Award. Chaon’s fiction has appeared in Best American Short Stories, The Pushcart Prize Anthologies, and The O. Henry Prize Stories. He has been a finalist for the National Magazine Award in Fiction, the Shirley Jackson Award, and he is the recipient of an Academy Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
