Do It@Home: Novel Art, A Book Discussion Group with Kim Baker

Presented by Cotuit Center for the Arts at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Join writer and poet Kim Baker for Novel Art, a monthly book group exploring art-themed historical fiction. The book Kim has chosen for February is The Muralist, by B.A. Shapiro. This acclaimed novel focuses on the early days of WWII and the dawn of Abstract Expressionism. Shapiro brings to life New York City artists Mark Rothko and Jackson Pollock, who are both inspired by the novel's brave and talented protagonist, Alizee Benoit. As these struggling artists find traction within their trade, Benoit attempts to bring awareness to the plight of European refugees and to defuse anti-Semitic politics in the U.S. through her art.

Read (or re-read!) the book, then meet on Zoom with Kim to discuss!
