Metalsmithing 101: Stonesetting for Beginners, Jan 2021

Presented by Cotuit Center for the Arts at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Bezels are so beautiful! Put your own unique spin on this classic setting by modifying bezel wire to make your own designs in the exciting class with jewelry artists Laura Bouton and Elisa Sullivan.
Why take this class? People love stones! Stones bring a world of color, texture to your designs. This is a great workshop to practice and expand on your bezel setting skills, including a tube setting technique. Students will make a complete ring and pendant with custom bezel settings during class. Learn the art of bezel setting and tube setting cabochons step by step as we create these beautiful rings and pendants together. We'll also be exploring how to create variations by adding textures.
This is NOT a class for novices -- ideally you will already have saw piercing and soldering skills. In addition, this course will also go over how to add decorative elements around your setting, like wire elements, handmade bail, and granules. Two styles of ring bands will be demonstrated: a hammered round wire style and a wide band ring formed from sterling sheet. Participants can also choose a pendant and a ring as an alternative.

There is a materials fee of $30-$50 (depending on the stone you choose), payable to the instructors at the beginning of class.

Pack a lunch and wear close-toed shoes.
Masks must be worn and social distancing will be observed.
