Metalsmithing 101: Creating Textures with a Rolling Mill

Metalsmithing 101: Creating Textures with a Rolling Mill

Presented by Cotuit Center for the Arts at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Using texture in your jewelry creations is a great way to add visual interest or focal points. Texture can create contrast within your design or help give balance to you piece. In this three-week class with artists Laura Bouton and Elisa Sullivan, students will learn how to create texture on metal using the Center's new Rolling Mill. This wonderful tool is a great addition to our metalsmithing classes and will help students bring their jewelry projects to the next level.

This is an intermediate level course, and students must be familiar with using a torch to anneal metal, soldering, hand tools such as hammers and stamps, and a flex shaft.

Students will learn how to use the Rolling Mill to create textures and designs in metal. They will create their own texture copper plates using various hand tools and unique materials. Students can then use the plates they make in class to create a ring with their own personal design. This is a great class to really tap into your creativity and bring out your own personal style in your jewelry projects.
There is a $20 materials fee payable to the instructors at the first class.
