Handbuilder’s Studio with Corrinn Jusell

Handbuilder’s Studio with Corrinn Jusell

Presented by Meetinghouse Clay Center at Meetinghouse Clay Center

In this class we will explore a multitude of ways to handbuild, and work through some of the technical challenges that handbuilding presents. We will work towards the idea of functional objects with tableware in mind. We will explore slabs as formed by a mold that they are pressed into or over.

We will also play with slabs as the starting point for additions of coils as both a way to build and a way to decorate. Additionally we will discuss what a mold is and what can be used as a mold, and we will make some of our own bisque molds to use in creating our work. By the end of class you will have multiple, complete, glazed, functional pieces. This class is ideal for beginner through intermediate students. Intermediate students will be asked to push their work forward by working in series.

*All classes include 25 pounds of clay, and the glazing and firing of those 25#. Additional clay may be purchased if needed. Beginner tool kits may be purchased for $24.

Classes also include ample access to the studio during posted open studio hours. Ceramics is an art form that benefits from practice and social time outside of class time.
