We will research historical and contemporary examples of tea sets, with an eye to function and form, that guides our progress through design to creation of cups and sauces that work as a team, culminating in making the challenging form of a teapot.
This course will be geared toward building a tea set. We will begin by discussing what makes a “set”. We will explore historical and contemporary examples of tea sets, and do a little Pinterest homework finding various aesthetics that appeal to each of us. We will use that research to guide our progression through design and completion of a complete tea set, from beginning with cups and saucers that work as a team, followed by all the accessories that you may need to enjoy your tea, and culminating in the challenging form of a teapot. In the creation of each form we will have an eye towards both function and form.
If COVID restrictions allow, we will celebrate with a tea party at the end of the last class. If that is not yet possible, please share pictures of your home tea party and we will create an album on Facebook, so we all can see them in use!
