A class that takes its students on a round-the-world tour of musical genres and instruments.
This class takes students on a round-the-world tour of musical genres and instruments.
Sessions in Part 1 start with the Middle East and North Africa, which share some common scales and rhythms, exploring instruments from familiar guitars to not-so familiar zurnas. From there, we go to North America, focusing on the blues and their Northwest Africa roots, and then back across the Atlantic to Europe and the UK; from Spain with its cajón drum and Moorish/flamenco musical style to South America. Part 2 session will focus on Asia and sub-Sahara Africa.
This class meets online on Zoom beginning at 6pm on Thursday, October 22.
