The Possibility of Evil

Miss Adela Strangeworth is a wealthy old woman who lives alone in an unnamed small town; she lives in the same grand house where her mother and her grandmother once lived, and takes great pride in her rose garden and in what she sees as her elevated social status and her place in the town’s history. She takes a great interest in the lives of her fellow townspeople, but harbors a secret that will ultimately lead to her own undoing.

The Burglar Alarm

The McWilliamses had a burglar alarm installed in their new home, which failed to prevent unwanted entry of burglars into their home. In fact, Mr. McWilliams encountered burglars in his home on a regular basis. The absurdity continues as the alarm company was able to entice the owners to invest more and more money into an already horrible experience.

The Last Leaf

In Greenwich Village in the early 1900’s, an old artist helps two young women who share a studio apartment. When one of the women falls ill and loses the will to live, the older man takes it upon himself to use his skill to make her believe that life is indeed worth fighting for.

The Catbird Seat

Mr. Martin, a precise, mousy, dedicated, vice-free accountant whose habits were once publicly praised by his boss, Mr. Fitweiler. Martin is being bullied by Mrs. Ulgine Barrows, an unruly, insensitive, efficiency expert. Ultimately, Barrows wants to re-organize Martin’s precious filing department. At first, Martin cannot bear the changes and copes by plotting a way to “rub out” Mrs. Barrows; ultimately, he decides instead to turn the tables on her.
