Emphasizing creative and unique design, students will make beautiful individual clay art pendants using a variety of techniques, as well as the fundamentals of cordage, end fastenings and brooch backs to make wearable jewelry from start to finish.
Pendants and brooches can be tiny works of art, or they can express a message to the world or they be just fun. Pendants can be made of many different materials. They can subvert and transform mundane everyday items into something valuable and beautiful, an object of desire. This class will spend 5 weeks looking at pendants, and how to make them and how to wear them.
The use of found materials and the idea of bricolage, the practice of transforming found materials by incorporating them in a new work, or simply the juxtaposition of strange objects beside more ordinary materials, will also be explored. Both found and natural materials will be used to make art pendants, combined with our clay elements, or stand-alone.
$200 for 5 Tuesday evening sessions, includes ample access to the studio during posted open studio hours.
