Nature Screen at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster presents Curiosity Stream’s Hurricane the Anatomy: Winds of Change a film by Andy Byatt and John Jackson Tuesdays, September 8 and September 22, 2020 at 11:30am.
For millennia, hurricanes, the greatest storms on earth, have threatened the Eastern United States, the Caribbean, and parts of Latin America. But changes to global climate have serious consequences for the future: rising sea-levels mean that storm surge from hurricanes will impact ever further inland.
In this 2020 hurricane season, forecasters at NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center have predicted 13 to 19 named storms, of which 6 to 10 would become hurricanes. Reasons for the active season include unusually warm seawater in the Atlantic Ocean and also the lack of an El Nino. More heat to fuel the hurricane to put us in harms way. Are we prepared?
