Many beginning, as well as more advanced potters love making pots, and that making is so important. This is really a three dimensional canvas. When it comes to the second important step: color, glazing, and firing, a lot of people fall apart.

This is why we make pots. So we can glaze and fire. There are many things that can go wrong, and this is where the “fear to finish” comes in. This class is designed to help students get better results with the glaze process. Whether they want to be able to get a great single coat in a color they like, or they want to explore decoration, and overlapping glaze— this course will help.

We will also work in the glaze lab so students have a better understanding of the materials they are using, and learn the glaze making process from beginning to end.

The course will begin with an extensive show of pots from Wayne’s collection in order to spur a dialogue about clay, glaze,and firing. During the first class we will also be making test tiles for testing glazes for the next classes. Results will be compared and discussed throughout the process. Please bring a notebook.
