Democracy of the Land: reflections on nature and civic society

Democracy of the Land: reflections on nature and civic society

Presented by Provincetown Community Compact at Veterans of Foreign Wars

Provincetown Community Compact has issued an open call to the community to participate in the send off of the VFW Hall before its demolition. The first organizational meeting will be held Wednesday, March 11 from 1:00-3:00 pm at one Jerome Smith Road, Provincetown. For info go to www.thecompact.org

The Compact is creating a ten-day, immersive, meditative and expansive experience that reflects on changing times, changing climate, impermanence and Provincetown’s cultural legacy.

Community residents will be asked to bring personal artifacts and art to the building to be displayed throughout the space. The interior will be darkened and visitors will be equipped with solar lights to explore the two floors of the building. The  solar lights will be distributed on the last day of the installation. Questions to think about:

What’s on your mind or 2020?

What’s permanent in your life?

What’s impermanent in your life?

How are you surviving in 2020?

What objects do you hold onto?

What places are special to you?

The VFW Hall, built in 1959, was an important space for the men and women of the town who served in the military, for community gatherings, and for weddings and parties. With its imminent demolition, it is time to honor its significance to an ever changing community and world.
