Who doesn’t like to hit a drum? Playing the steel drum, or “playing pan” as it is known in its native Caribbean, requires no musical experience. Producing a note in a pan is easy, and the reward is immediate! If you can tap your toe, you can play. In this class, students will learn to play by aural rote, just as it is taught traditionally in panyards across the Caribbean, with instruction in basic music notation, rhythm, and harmony. The primary objective of the class is to make music and have fun! So get ready to kick off your shoes, feel the proverbial hot sand between your toes, and "jump up!"
