Author Terri Arthur Speaks at Literary Group Series Event

Presented by Sandwich Arts Alliance at Sandwich Arts Alliance

Arthur’s 45-minute talk will be followed by a question and answer period and sale of her books. Refreshments will be served.

Excerpt from the novel: “Brussels, 1915. World War I was raging, and a young British nurse named Edith Cavell was working in neutral Belgium when the German army marched in and promptly took over the hospitals and schools.

Its order: Do not save any British soldiers. Or you will die. When two British soldiers, badly injured, needed her help, Cavell went against German army orders and saved the men by operating a clandestine basement hospital right across from the army’s headquarters.”

“Fatal Decision” is the historical and gripping true story of World War I nurse Edith Cavell who is credited with saving over 1,000 injured soldiers in occupied Brussels, and possibly helping trigger US participation in the European War.

In 2015, Arthur spoke at the annual service in Norwich, England as a tribute to the nurse one hundred years after her execution. There Cavell was honored in the United Kingdom with considerable fanfare. Arthur enthused, “She is finally getting her due and I think my book has had a hand in making that happen,”.

The first SAA Literary Group Series took place last fall featuring fourteen authors paired up to discuss their work in seven weekly presentations intended to educate the public and sell books.

“Participants benefitted most from the opportunity to bond as a writing community of novelists, children’s authors, biographers, memoirists, poets and translators”, offered event coordinator Christie Lowrance. “Donald Sidney Fryer dazzled listeners by reciting from memory his formal poetry, while Jim Petipas’ talk and theme song rendition on “The Cows Go Moo” had his audience roaring with laughter.”

All talks are on YouTube at www.sandwichartsalliance.org, “Meet the Alliance Authors”.
