Quartett Giocosa: Prodigious

Quartett Giocosa: Prodigious

Presented by Quartett Giocosa at Federated Church of Hyannis

With their latest program, “Prodigious”, Quartett Giocosa will explore the childhood experiences of three of classical music’s most famous child prodigies; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Felix Mendelssohn and Samuel Barber. All three had distinctly different upbringings, with the prodigious nature of each child being managed in various ways, ranging from exploitation of their talents to the hope that music would be abandoned in favor of a more appropriate pastime, such as football.

These performances will be a fascinating look into the upbringing of three child geniuses and how their unusual abilities affected the musical output of their adult lives. On the program is Mozart’s String Quartet #14 (Spring), Mendelssohn’s Quartet Op. 44 #1, and the famous Adagio from Barber’s Quartet Op. 11.

The performances will take place at on Saturday February 29th at 4 pm at the Federated Church of Hyannis, 320 Main Street, Hyannis MA, and on Sunday March 1st at 3 pm at the Wellfleet Preservation Hall, 335 Main Street, Wellfleet MA. Tickets are $22, and are available at the door or online for the Wellfleet performance at www.welfleetpreservationhall.org. More information is available at Quartett Giocosa’s website, www.quartettgiocosa.com. These programs are supported in part by grants from the Mid-Cape and Wellfleet Cultural Councils, local agencies which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
