Naturescape Gallery at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is proud to present “Beach Trash” by artist Suzanna Nickerson February 15 – April 30, 2020. *
Suzanna’s work with beach trash started about three years ago as a personal mission: to display in a visually clear way, exactly what she found on beach walks lasting anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours. Expressing herself artistically through collage, arranging color, shapes and texture in dramatic patterns, allows viewers to see the variety and amount of trash, primarily plastic trash, washing up on the shores of our local beaches, impacting the health and well-being of wildlife on shore as well as wildlife in our oceans.
Suzanna grew up in Chatham in an artistic family with little formal training and describes her artwork as “primitive”. As an environmental advocate, she is passionate about protecting the natural beauty of the Cape and has devoted her artistic expression to beach trash art as a means to increase the understanding of the adverse human impact of plastic use on the Cape.
