Focus on the Figure with Susan Overstreet (6 wks)

Presented by Cape Cod Museum of Art at Cape Cod Museum of Art

Each class will start with a discussion of anatomy covering different body parts each week and building to a basic knowledge of the skeletal and muscular systems. The discussion will be followed by timed poses for drawing ending with a long pose for painting. The painting portion will explore different palettes each week for a deeper understanding of color.

Working with a live model is the best way to improve drawing skills. All levels are welcome to study the figure with structured timed poses that will expand your knowledge of anatomy and inspire your individual expression. One on one instruction throughout the class as well as group discussions during model breaks will enhance the educational experience. $240 Not-yet Members / $220 Museum Members for this six-week, three-hour drawing class; Tuesdays 12 to 3. Limited to 8 spots.

Artist’s Statement

“Art is a soulful response to a subject. I am inspired by the people and environments of Cape Cod and places that I travel. My process begins with an emotional connection to a subject. I study how best to technically get this reaction on the canvas and then use my brushes and colors to convey my individual expression. It is a joyful challenge to hone an evolving, experimental, technical process that honors the world around us.” — Susan Overstreet
