Thinking of the loom as a tool, this class will begin to explore different looms.
One of interesting aspects of weaving is the variety of looms available to use. Many classes at the Falmouth Art Center use traditional table or floor looms. Thinking of the loom as a tool, this class will begin to explore different looms. A simple loom can be made from cardboard, or a stretcher frame with nails. Perhaps you are interested in a rigid heddle loom, or you have a loom at home that you could bring. Students will begin to explore weaving on looms limited to a simple weave structures while pushing the limits of weaving materials, beyond yarn, perhaps to include non-traditional materials. Traditional weaving techniques will be introduced and students will be encouraged to work creatively.
For some students, who have taken the small hand held loom class, this class will be a continuation. For others, it might serve as an introduction to weaving. The class will include how to best finish and prepare a woven piece for hanging.
The instructor, Christine Anderson (774-487-2134), encourages you to contact her if you have questions about this class.
