The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History in Brewster presents their popular series Lunch ‘n Learn. On Thursday, December 12, 2019 at 11:30am join Cape Cod naturalist, Phil Kyle for his program, Winter Birds: Cape Cod’s Year-Round Residents.
Survival in harsh weather makes special adaptations for winter conditions unbelievable! For instance: available food, if found; hibernating to survive the cold; sleeping locations; and insulating behavior from the cold.
Join Phil to learn about these amazing cold weather adaptations that our year-round birds possess and discover how cold is too cold for birds, do birds get cold at night, and do birds use birdhouses in the winter? It’s genes over weather extremes!
Phil's mission has always been to inform people about the awesome wonder of the natural world. Since he retired in 2012 he has written a column on Birding for the Cape Cod Times Newspaper, presented for Libraries, Garden Clubs and schools and has actively birded for over 40 years. He now works summers on the Barnstable Harbor Ecotour pontoon boat as head naturalist and volunteers as a docent at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History winters.
