Artwork by the Monday Morning Painters

Presented by Falmouth Community Television at The Gallery at FCTV

Artwork by The Monday Morning Painters will be on display at the Gallery at FCTV from September 3 through October 2.

The Monday Morning Painters is a plein air painting group based at the Falmouth Art Center. Ten of the members will be showing.

Mary Costa has been painting for many years. She attended the Art Institute of Boston and enjoys painting all subject matter. She has won numerous ribbons and her paintings are in many private collections.

Mary Carroll grew up in New England and lives in Falmouth. She is a plein air painter, kitchen designer, avid quilter, and has an Etsy shop. She has a BFA from UMass Dartmouth and has been in many group and solo shows. Her paintings are oil on canvas and her signature work consists of bold brushwork with an attention to depth.

Peter F. Daley is a retired college administrator and art teacher.  A graduate of the Museum School of Fine Arts and Tufts University, he is a watercolor artist and lives in Sippewissett with his wife and dog, Teddy.

Sigrid Hecker is a local artist with twenty years of portrait and landscape painting experience. Her preferred medium is oil and her style leans towards impressionism.  Sigrid’s art background includes taking courses at The Art Students League (NYC), Woodstock School of Art (NY), and the Falmouth Art Center.

Carol Knox is a trained biologist (ecologist/botanist) who continues to be inspired by the beauty of the natural world.  In her paintings she works to depict the beauty of the natural habitats with which she is most familiar, particularly coastal New England and the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Most of her current painting is done in oil, although she also paints in watercolor and pastel, and creates greeting cards from photographs of her paintings. Carol has studied at DeCordova Museum and at the Falmouth Artists Guild, where she is a member and volunteer.

Ellen Lennon studied art at Bridgewater State and NE School of Art in Boston. After her family of four children left the nest, Ellen and her husband moved from Hingham to Falmouth where she found endless subject material and beautiful light. She discovered painting in many mediums but prefers watercolor and oils.

Jennifer Ray holds a B.F.A. degree in Graphic Design from Carnegie-Mellon University. After working in that field for close to thirty years, she has been studying watercolor for the past few. She is very much enjoying getting outside with the Falmouth Art Center Monday Morning Painters.

Kathy Taylor is from a family of artists and started painting with her mother Anna Taylor on painting holidays in Ireland. Later she studied at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Association in Birmingham Michigan.  In Falmouth she and participates in shows at the Falmouth Art Center, the Woods Hole Community Center, and the West Falmouth Library.

Cathy van der Bil has had a life-long interest in art. Using water color to interpret the world has been her latest passion. “Working at home might have me looking at everyday objects in a creative way and painting with the plein air group gives me the opportunity to paint the beautiful natural world that surrounds us on Cape Cod,” Cathy explains.

Gloria Warren joined the Falmouth Art Center shortly after moving to Cape Cod. “Monday Morning Painters has proven to be a supportive and friendly group,” says Gloria. “We have learned a lot from each other in the weekly critiques. Plein Air painting is challenging, with its constant changes - clouds move, boats will not stand still, the sun peeks in and out, and the time flies. My favorite medium is pastel, with which I always hope to convey the peace and beauty of the Cape.”

The Gallery at FCTV is located within the new Falmouth Community Media Center, which is at 310 Dillingham Ave., easily accessible by Rose Morin Lane. The new entrance is located on the opposite side of the old FCTV and Maser Gallery building.

Gallery Exhibit Hours: Sunday 12-8 pm; Monday, 2-10 pm; Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, 10 -10 pm; Friday 10-6 pm; Saturday, Closed.
