Art Exhibit

Presented by Sandwich Arts Alliance at Sandwich Arts Alliance Center

“Origins” is an exhibit by the Wednesday Artists of Sandwich being held at the Sandwich Arts Alliance Center in the Special Exhibit Gallery August 29th through September 11th, with an opening reception on Friday, August 30th  from 5 to 7 pm.  The Sandwich Arts Alliance Center is open daily from 10 am to 5 pm at 124 Route 6A in Sandwich. For more information visit www.sandwichartsalliance.org

Members of the Wednesday Artists include Diana Payne, Rita Bernier, Maureen Burbic and Margo Mancinelli. The four have been painting together for several years, showing their work in other nearby towns since Sandwich had no venue for them to show their work.

It was at one of these exhibits that Joanne Westerhouse, current SAA President, was admiring their work only to discover that all four artists were from Sandwich. This realization over five years ago was the first seed planted that grew into the formation of the Sandwich Arts Alliance.

With no venue for artists in Sandwich, the Alliance has always had their sights on a Center where people, artists and groups could rent space to show their work or have an event, and this is now possible in the Special Exhibit Gallery at the new Center.

“So it’s fitting that the exhibit be called ‘Origins’”, mentioned Westerhouse. “The Wednesday Artists were the original inspiration in forming the Sandwich Arts Alliance and once we learned just how many artists were living in Sandwich, we forged ahead and now have over 330 members, all artists, writers, performers, and friends of the arts”.
