Democracy: From Beginning to End

Democracy: From Beginning to End

Presented by Cotuit Library at Cotuit Library

Democracy: From Beginning to End is a three-part presentation that examines the theoretical and practical foundations of Democracy in history.  The discussion addresses the elements of Democracy and compares it as a political system to other options. Three 90-minute lectures, given by Michael Darring,  provide an overview of Democracy’s emergence and foundations; of the era of the founding of American democracy; and of Democracy’s status in the modern world and beyond.

Michael Darring resides in Cotuit with his wife, Kate, and their two hounds, Winston and White Cloud.   Michael earned a BA in Philosophy from the University of Tennessee and recently retired from an arduous career in the oilfields of the Gulf of Mexico; in between, he travelled and read widely and frequently.  In the middle of 2018, after reading a book on the founding of the New England colonies, he became interested in the subject of democracy. These lectures are the result of his research since that time.
