Falmouth resident Louise Lane—who just celebrated her 87^th birthday—is being honored with a solo exhibition of her paintings at the Cape Cod Museum of Art in Dennis.  The exhibition titled Transformed by Color will be on view until July 21^st.

“All of my life I have been drawing and painting, at first each day after school and much later during my career as a real estate broker,” states artist Louise Lane.  Born in Boston in 1932, raised in Milton and Dedham, Louise moved to Falmouth near the end of her high school years.  She attended Russell Sage College, married Howard “Brud” Lane and raised two sons during their sixty-year marriage.

During the late 1950’s Louise took art classes with Angelo Cangiamilia and over the next ten years exhibited with “Cangi” and his group.  Together they founded the Artists’ Guild in 1966 and Louise became a Charter member of what is now known as the Falmouth Art Center.  From that time on, she exhibited her work regularly and often won awards in Falmouth and at the Cape Cod Art Association.

Inspired by multiple trips to Europe—most traveling by bicycle—visiting museums and galleries along the way, Louise frequently worked outdoors, en plein air, in both oil and pastel.  After years of working in a traditional manner, Louise was drawn to a modernist style and a deeper expression of feelings through the forms and color of paint.  In the late 1980s Louise discovered the workshops offered in Dennis by Sam Feinstein, a former student of Hans Hofmann, and for the next fifteen years she painted in his classes each summer.  Louise declares that her “vision was transformed.”  Now, thirty years later, Louise continues to explore her own bold and joyous imagery in her Barnstable studio.
