Gay Sons and Mothers

Gay Sons and Mothers

Presented by Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) at Provincetown Art Association and Museum

The emotional relationship between gay sons and their mothers has been pathologized, idealized…and, surprisingly, largely unexplored. In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Stonewall, a turning point for gay rights, Rick Miller, LICSW, will share his research about that relationship from his multimedia project Gay Sons and Mothers. This talk will provide a timeline of gay history, highlighting the defining moments of gay liberation and emphasizing what was happening between gay sons and their mothers during pivotal periods. The evening will include lecture and video interviews of gay sons along with their mothers that are part of this project. Gay Sons and Mothers is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

This is a presentation Rick has made in a number of venues, yet he is particularly excited about “bringing it home,” so to speak, and presenting it to his own Outer Cape community. Some local people are featured in the video presentations.
