Garden Descriptions

Meander Through This Family Property
61 Rendezvous Lane, Barnstable Village
Parking:  Please park on the house side of street only.

Well established gardens surround this charming Cape home and compound belonging to the same family for five generations.

Enjoy the sweeping views of the fields and distant bay. View the arbor with climbing roses, the hedges along the property, and a large vegetable garden. Not to be missed is the glorious 57 year old trumpet vine planted by the current owners’ grandparents in 1962.

While there are no hydrangeas on the property, the perennial gardens have essentially remained the same since 1929. A family member states, “…the Big House has been long famed for it’s 100 year old roses, now well past that venerable age and still a sight to behold”.  The owners are instructing the roses to be in perfect bloom for your viewing pleasure!

Visitors are invited to walk through the yard and down the grass driveway to view additional gardens and views at house #49. The family requests you do not visit the red house at #39 as it is not part of the tour.

Sweeping Vistas
59 Otter Lane, Barnstable Village
Parking:  Please park on right side of the circle or on street as space allows.

This lovely, newly built seaside home is at the end of a quiet lane in the Cummaquid section of Barnstable. As you enter this beautiful property, notice the stunning specimen of a Bloodgood Japanese maple tree and ornamental shrubs that frame the front of the house. Notice the house details including the Cape Cod cutout!

Enter the back yard through the gate on the right. Hydrangeas aplenty surround the property, adding to the glorious views of the bay and marshes and the Keveney Lane bridge.

A large stone patio, roses and sea grasses complement this stunning setting.  Words are not necessary to describe the views and serenity of this property.

A Naturalist’s Hidden World
166 Indian Trail, Cummaquid
Parking: Please park in the field opposite the house, on the right side of the street, or in the front part of the circular drive if space allows. A parking attendant will be present for guidance.

Hidden behind a trellis banked in climbing hydrangeas is a unique treasure, a garden that is the creation of a loving naturalist and artist.

This garden was on the hydrangea tour last year and is brought back by popular demand. The garden plantings and specimens, including but not limited to irises, young hollies, bee balms, Japanese maples, red twig dogwoods, ginkgoes, butterfly bushes, and over 100 varieties of daylillies, are too numerous to list. Fortunately, the owner has meticulously labeled her plantings to help us navigate the setting.

Scattered throughout the property are her handcrafted sculptures and benches created from cherry and cedar wood. These objects alone are worth the visit! Additional ceramic pieces from Scargo Pottery and Barnstable Pottery add color as well, as do the whimsical “flowers” found throughout the gardens.

Finally, at the rear of the property, one enjoys the tranquil views of Barnstable Harbor and marvels at the sacred space created to honor the history of the area.
