Polar Earth: Portraits of a Vanishing World An Illustrated Lecture

Polar Earth: Portraits of a Vanishing World An Illustrated Lecture

Presented by Cape Cod Museum of Natural History at Cape Cod Museum of Natural History

Our Earth’s climate is warming at an alarming pace. These changes are forever altering the habitats of wildlife that have lived in the polar regions for hundreds of thousands of years. In recent years we were privileged to journey deep into remote polar regions of the Arctic and as well as the Southern Ocean regions of the Antarctic to witness the changes underway. The lecture will feature many images and some stories of our travels over a decade into the earth\'s most remote Polar Regions to locate and photograph wildlife and also discuss some of the evidence and impacts of the loss of sea ice on the planet and our region due to the warming planet. ~ John and Pam King

John is a conservationist and world traveler, with strong ties to Cape Cod that span many generations. After finishing college, John spent more than 7 years working as a commercial fisherman in Alaska and became a licensed ship\'s Master at the age of 27. Locally, John is the owner/skipper of the research vessel Aleutian Dream which is conducting the white shark research currently being conducted by scientists supported by the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy in outer Cape waters. John is also a co-founder together with Pam, of The Common Flat Project, a conservation organization dedicated to creating awareness of the importance of earth’s biodiversity especially on Cape Cod.
