Published and aspiring writers are invited to attend the Cape Cod Writers Center’s Pathways to Publication Seminars on Saturday, April 13, 2019, at the Osterville Public Library from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM and from 1:30 PM-4:30 PM.

Both seminars offer writers an opportunity to learn specific literary skills in fiction and nonfiction in focused three-hour sessions. The morning course concentrates on Dialogue for prose; the afternoon course is devoted to Short Stories. Members and nonmembers of the Cape Cod Writers Center are invited to register for one or both seminars. There is a brief break for lunch between the sessions from 1:00-1:30 PM.

Acclaimed screenwriter, producer, and consultant Mark Fogarty will teach on Dialogue from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. “Writing dialogue can be one of the most difficult and significant tasks a writer faces,” he explained. “The challenge involves creating dialogue that feels and sounds real, yet also works to communicate your story.” The seminar includes tips on creating subtext, hiding exposition, working with slang, and getting the characters in your head speaking with voices of their own.

Prominent author, Stephen D. Rogers, who has sold more than six hundred short stories in every genre, will teach on Short Stories from 1:30-4:30 PM. “Whether you want to take a break from your novel, or prefer to work in the short form, you can master techniques that will take your story to the next level,” he said. “Of course that's only half the battle, which is why you need to learn how to submit and sell what you've written.”
