How to Draw the Human Figure

How to Draw the Human Figure

Presented by Truro Center for the Arts at Castle Hill at Truro Center for the Arts

Figure drawing is the ballet of visual art. By drawing from life with a stick of charcoal (the tool used in the first cave drawings), the very act of it brings out a certain knowing.  In this course, we will begin with warm-up exercises with a nude model, moving to longer poses throughout the morning. The discipline of drawing the human body brings vitality to an artist’s practice.

A still life arrangement will grow around the model with the final week as a full interior setting. In this way, the compositions increase in complexity so that students can experience proportion, rendering, perspective as well as gesture and expression. The last half hour will be a profile of a prominent Truro artist and how they approach drawing. There will be optional homework.
