Mangia al Museo

Mangia al Museo

Presented by Cape Cod Museum of Art at Cape Cod Museum of Art

“The Italian phrase mangia means ‘Eat’ but it carries the richer cultural meaning to eat with great enjoyment,” says Benton Jones, CCMoA Acting Executive Director. “What’s more enjoyable than sitting down in the warmth of community and eating delicious pasta from artistic bowls handmade by our wonderful artists and students with love?”

Each guest will choose from decorated bowls of different colors and sizes that were created by the museum’s Ceramics Instructor Nat Doane and volunteer pottery students. The students have been hard at work throwing, trimming, and glazing these pasta bowls. Every guest will take their chosen bowl home as a remembrance of this shared event.

A choice of either ziti or spiralized vegetables will be offered. Five popular restaurants will compete for “Best Meat Sauce” and “Best Veggie Sauce.” The competing restaurants are:

1) The Pheasant, Dennis
2) Off the Grid, Sandwich
3) Naked Oyster, Hyannis
4) Dennis Inn/Treats Catering
5) Underground Bakery, Dennis
6) Encore Bar & Bistro, Dennis

The winning restaurants will receive a beautiful handmade ceramic platter created by Nat Doane.

Guests will also have a chance to win a special pasta bowl handmade by the President of the CCMoA Board of Trustees, Kathleen Fowler and Nathaniel Doane, the Ceramics Instructor at the museum.

Pottery student end event organizer, Elizabeth Sweeney, said, “After the success of our first two Mangia events, we are thrilled to again offer this fun, family friendly, and unique event.”

The museum is grateful to The Dennis Cultural Council, which has provided the clay through a grant.

The museum would also like to recognize the generosity and support of Cape Cod Beer, which donated all of the beer for the event. Cape Cod Beer will be pouring three of their varieties of beer. Wine is donated by Joseph Carr Wines.

Desserts baked by the Underground Bakery will be provided. Cheese will be provided by Sapori d’Italia, and coffee is provided by Snowy Owl.
