This workshop teaches the properties of color: what comprises each color; how a specific color is influenced by those surrounding it; and how to manipulate color.
This workshop teaches the properties of color: what comprises each color; how a specific color is influenced by those surrounding it; and how to manipulate color. Although structured with the artist in mind, the workshop is of interest to anyone who uses color and students need not have painting experience.
Students will be given problems to solve. Each student will have a different assigned color for each problem in order to work with all the primary and secondary colors. Following each problem the class will look at and discuss the solutions. There will be more than one solution to even the same given color. The workshop will build upon these lessons, simultaneously increasing the challenge and individual preference for color.
The original text Interaction of Color by Josef Albers will be used to demonstrate as well as posters, and previous students’ work. I took several classes with Ati Gropius Johansen who studied these methods with Josef Albers at Black Mountain College.
