Architect John Ingwersen will talk about the art, architecture and meaning of the design of the Church of the Transfiguration which overlooks Cape Cod Bay in Orleans at his ARTfull Thursday presentation.

Standing at the spiritual center of the Community of Jesus, an ecumenical community in the Benedictine monastic tradition, The Church of the Transfiguration is a contemporary expression of an ancient fourth-century style of architecture.  The art inside and outside the building includes sculpture, original mosaics, true frescoes, and a glass installation, by world renowned artists from Europe and the US.

The true frescoes were painted on wet plaster by Silvestro Pistolesi from Florence. The mosaics on the floor were designed by Helen Mclean of Scotland and were created in Ravenna Italy by Alessandra Caprara in the Ravenna-Byzantine tradition. The stone sculptures were designed by Helen McLean and executed by Regis DeMange of France. The bronze doors were sculpted and cast by Romolo Del Deo of NY and Provincetown.

John Ingwersen is a principal architect with Architectural Design Inc. in Orleans with a Masters Degree in architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of the Design, a certificate from the Boston Architectural College.  He attended the Koninklijke Akademie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague, The Netherlands where he grew up. He lives at the Community of Jesus and is a docent at the Church of the Transfiguration.
