Art Reception

Presented by Cultural Center of Cape Cod at Cultural Center of Cape Cod

To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Association to Preserve Cape Cod, APCC has partnered with The Walden Woods Project, renowned photographer Scot Miller, and the Cultural Center of Cape Cod to present Henry David Thoreau, Cape Cod to the Maine Woods: A Journey in Photographs, an exhibition of Miller’s finely-crafted photographic prints, on loan from The Walden Woods Project, created by the Harvard Museum of Natural History in partnership with Scot Miller to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the publication of Henry David Thoreau’s The Maine Woods. This exhibit will take place in the Great Hall and the Blue Room from October 3-28. Scot Miller’s work has formed the basis of numerous books, including Walden: The 150th Anniversary Illustrated Edition of the American Classic; Cape Cod: Illustrated Edition of the American Classic; First Light: Five Photographers Explore Yosemite’s Wilderness; My First Summer in the Sierra: 100th Anniversary Illustrated Edition, winner of a 2011 National Outdoor Book Award; Thoreau, The Maine Woods: A Photographic Journey Through an American Wilderness; and Emerson, Muir, Thoreau: A Photographic Trilogy of American Wildness. Through his photography, he attempts to inspire an appreciation and understanding of the uniqueness of wild places and open spaces. He is a frequent contributor to the “Moment in Nature” videos, broadcast nationally on Emmy Award-winning CBS Sunday Morning. Scot will present a multi-media lecture in conjunction with the opening reception, approx. 30 minutes in length. Three other artists will also exhibit their work and share in the reception on October 5th. Photographer Kathleen Magnussen and painter Elaine Ostrander will exhibit their work in the Board Room from October 3-14. And painter Carl Richards will exhibit his work in the Vault from October 3-28. Plus open studios by the Owl Artists. The exhibits and the reception are free and open to the public.
