Brazilian Jazz meets Modern - featuring Fabiano de Castro & Bert Jackson

Presented by Wellfleet Preservation Hall at Wellfleet Preservation Hall

Brazilian pianist and composer Fabiano de Castro and Cape Cod guitarist and composer Bert Jackson present Brazilian Jazz Meets Modern: Two Composers Share Favorites. They bring together a dynamic quartet with bassist Ron Ormsby and drummer Kareem Sanjaghi. Fabiano and Bert will share an evening of each other's favorite compositions, Bossa Nova classics and jazz standards. Fabiano is from São Paulo, Brazil, and tours the Cape every summer. He is steeped in the Brazilian music tradition and studied modern jazz in New York with icons such as Ravi Coltrane and Steve Coleman. He has released two albums, Espaço Imaginário, and Lá do Alto do Morro. "I love playing with Fabiano," says Bert. "He's a beautiful, complex human and that really shows in his songs and playing." Guitarist and composer Bert Jackson is a year-round Cape Cod performer, playing with his own jazz quartet, the Wicked Trio, and other ensembles in the region. His quartet’s first album, Imaginary Journey, was released in 2013. Light of the Son is expected for release later this year.

A musician since age 11, Fabiano studied at Harbor Conservatory in New York and attended workshops at School for Improvisational Music with Ravi Coltrane, Steve Colleman, Uri Caine and Ralph Alessis. He is currently active in the music scenes of Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Cape Cod.

Bert Jackson is a regular on the Cape Cod music circuit, leading his own groups in jazz and blues. He is a composer, teacher and advocate for music and arts in the community. A new recording featuring Fabiano is out this year.
