August Art Show: Amanda Reed & Rachael Sokolowski

August Art Show: Amanda Reed & Rachael Sokolowski

Presented by Brewster Ladies' Library at Brewster Ladies' Library

In this show, Amanda and Rachael share their experience of traveling in and photographing the people and places of Cuba.

As a photographer, Amanda Reed has a passion for two distinctly different forms of photography: nature photography and iPhoneography. Birds are the primary subjects of her nature images. Photographing birds is challenging since the subjects rarely stand still and keep their distance from human beings. Nature photography requires patience and endurance, which in turn is rewarded with beautiful images and a satisfying connection with the natural world.  iPhoneography, which utilizes the iPhone and iPad to capture and process images, is a completely different photographic experience. Using the iPhone to capture images gives Amanda the flexibility to make pictures everywhere she goes. There is no limit to subjects, locations, time of day, light or the lack thereof.  Image processing is done using a myriad of apps designed to promote artistic creativity and experimentation. Amanda is a member of the iPhone 9, Cape Cod Viewfinders Camera Club, The Truro Group and Massachusetts Camera Naturalists. She lives in Truro.

A year-round resident of Truro, Rachael Sokolowski works visually in photography, video and mixed media. Using the digital images shot on her iPhone, she prints to various media – everything from traditional photography paper to a transfer process for metal, canvas, wood and fine art paper. For some images, she adds pastels, acrylics, ink, or water-based oils to the printed image. Rachael integrates images and video shot on the iPhone into short films. Rachael is a member of the Truro Group and the iPhone 9. Her images have been shown at many juried and group shows at different locations. She has won awards at the 2016 JCC International Mobile Device Photography Competition and Exhibit, the Cape Cod Art Association, and the Coast Guard Photography Exhibit in both 2013 and 2014. Cape Cod Magazine’s March 2015 issue features her work in the article “The Camera in Your Pocket.” Her film Snowmageddon won best in show at the 2015 Provincetown Film Festival, and was shown in New York City on October 15, 2016 at the Dog Film Festival.
