Samba Saturday on Cape Cod: An Evening of Jobim

Presented by Cotuit Center for the Arts at Cotuit Center for the Arts

Featuring well known and hidden treasures by Antônio Carlos Brasileiro de Almeida Jobim, also known as Tom Jobim. Widely considered as one of the great exponents of Brazilian music, Jobim is the artist who internationalized bossa nova and, with the help of important American artists, merged it with jazz in the 1960s to create a new sound with remarkable popular success. The Brazilian collaborators and interpreters of Jobim's music include Vinicius de MoraesJoão Gilberto (often credited as a co-creator or creator of bossa nova), Chico BuarqueGal CostaElis ReginaSérgio MendesAstrud Gilberto and Flora PurimEumir Deodatoand the conductor/composer Claus Ogerman arranged many recordings of Jobim tunes.

International Pianist, Fabiano de Castro, returns from Sao Paulo Brazil for this one night only event. Ron Ormsby, who has been playing Brazilian music since 1988, will be featured on the bass. Ron's thorough understanding of Jobim will make this an entertaining and informative evening. Bart Weisman, Percussion, and Bruce Abbott, Saxophones and flute, will round out this extraordinary instrumental quartet. Tedi Marsh, Song Stylist, is featured on vocals. Last year this same quartet and vocalist paid tribute to Michel LeGrand. This is their return engagement to honor another exceptional composer, pianist, songwriter, arranger and singer: JOBIM.
