Sunday Concert: Lary Chaplan & Jim Skinger

Presented by Brewster Ladies' Library at Brewster Ladies' Library

Lary Chaplan studied violin classically in Los Angeles, both privately and at UCLA, where he majored in chamber music. He then moved to New York City, where he studied classical with Albert Hirsch and Samuel Applebaum and jazz with John Lewis and Tiny Grimes, performing with them both. He has performed in Broadway and off Broadway pit orchestras, been a featured soloist in two award-winning off Broadway shows in New York, and toured Europe and the United States with rock and jazz ensembles. On the Cape, he has played with the Cape Symphony for the past 29 years, and performs with the Bart Weisman Klezmer Swing Group and the rock group Broadway Central. Lary teaches at the Academy of Performing Arts in Orleans and the Cape Cod Conservatory in West Barnstable.

Jim Skinger has had a lifelong love affair with the guitar as a teacher, performer and composer. He has taught guitar at some of the leading universities in the United States and has established guitar programs at Clark University in Massachusetts, Marywood College in Pennsylvania, and the SUNY Colleges in New York. As a performer, Jim has appeared twice in Carnegie Hall and the Royal Festival Hall in London, and has toured throughout Europe, performing in Austria, Germany, Russia, the Czech Republic and Belarus. Along with his classical performances, Jim’s jazz ensemble “Jade” has achieved much success in the New York/Connecticut area.
