Sunday Concert: John Murelle and the John Salerno Trio

The trio consists of John Salerno on keyboard and accordion, Dennis Nobrega on reeds, and Al Orlando on mandolin and guitar.

Baritone John Murelle is a versatile singer with a wide range of musical interests, including art song, opera and oratorio, Broadway and popular songs. He holds Vocal Performance degrees from the University of Michigan and the Boston Conservatory, and a Diploma from the Boston University Opera Institute. John Murelle’s keen interest in song literature has earned him accolades as a concert singer. His diverse programs include song cycles of Beethoven, Head, Fauré, Quilter, Ravel, Schubert, Schumann and Vaughan Williams, and highly acclaimed theme recitals including “The Way You Look Tonight: The Songs of Jerome Kern,” “With A Song In My Heart: The Songs of Rodgers and Hart,” and “Let Yourself Go: The Songs of Irving Berlin,” among others. A voice teacher, John has a private studio in East Sandwich. His student’s regularly receive scholarships at recognized music schools throughout the U.S.

John Salerno, a native of the Boston area, has been performing professionally for over forty years. He began his career as a pianist and singer, performing in the New England area and throughout the East Coast. An accomplished pianist, he performs on all the keyboards and vibraphone. His seventeen-piece big band has performed opening night at the Wang Center for the Bolshoi, for Kirov and Boston Ballet productions of Swan Lake, concerts at Quincy Market and Market Place Center in Boston, and locally at Heritage Plantation and Mashpee Commons. The band also performed at the 1997 Presidential Inaugural. John earned a B.A. in music from the University of Lowell and an M.A. from Bridgewater State College. He has been director of music at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, chorus director for the cities of Lynn and New Bedford, director of the Cape Cod Conservatory Jazz Ensemble, and director of fine arts for the city of New Bedford.

This concert will take place on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.  Admission is free, and all are welcome to attend.
