This year’s honoree artist is Milton Teichman. Born in 1930 in New York City, Teichman is a retired professor of English who has had a parallel career as painter and sculptor. He is now celebrating 50 years of consistent work in both painting and sculpture. Teichman lived in New York’s Hudson Valley for many years and moved to Cape Cod in 1999, where he opened the Teichman Gallery in the town of Brewster to show his work. In New York State, he studied with Max Schnitzler, Evelyn Fisher, William Pachner, and Ati Johansen. On the Cape, he has studied with Joan Pereira, Paul Bowen and Jim Peters. In Mexico, where he spends winters, he has studied with bronze sculptors Jesus Mendez and Mario Rangel, and ceramic sculptor Francisco Contreras.

Teichman has exhibited extensively in New York State, with one-person shows at Bennett College, 1975, and Marist College, 1980, 1990. On the Cape, he has appeared frequently in juried shows of the Provincetown Art Association and Museum. In the fall of 2004, he was Artist in Residence at Cape Cod Community College and presented a retrospective of 42 years of painting and sculpture. In the winter of 2012, he had a one-person show of painting and sculpture at the Cape Cod Museum of Art. He presented a one-person show of ceramic sculpture and painting at the Cahoon Museum in Mashpee in the spring of 2013. His work appears in many private collections. A bronze sculpture entitled “We are One” was purchased by the Mashpee Public Library in 2011 and is displayed in the library lobby.
