Winter Lecture: “Still Family History: Ties To The Underground Railway”

Winter Lecture: “Still Family History: Ties To The Underground Railway”

Presented by Cultural Center of Cape Cod at Cultural Center of Cape Cod

Join us as author Samuel Still relates the story of his great grandfather, William Still, the African-American abolitionist of Philadelphia often called “The Father of the Underground Railroad.” The presentation describes the early lives of two former enslaved Africans, Levin and Charity Still, and their three children: William Still, a major conductor of the Underground Railroad; Peter Still, who survived slavery and was eventually reunited with his family; and Dr. James Still, a self-taught herbalist who became one of the wealthiest African Americans in New Jersey during the 1800s. The presentation focuses on a real life story of an American family raised with strong work values, pride, and self-determination. The event will take place in the Owl Hall of the Cultural Center of Cape Cod. No reservations are necessary. A donation of $10 is requested. Refreshments will follow the lecture. All are welcome.
