Sturgis Library will hold a discussion with Zenas Crocker of the Barnstable Clean Water Coalition regarding what is going on around Cape Cod in regards to our public water supply. Tuesday, February 27th from 6 to 7:30 PM.
Barnstable Clean Water Coalition: A Rescue Mission
Clean water is important to our health, environment and local economy. On Cape Cod, our marine bays are impaired by excess levels of nitrogen and other contaminants, our freshwater ponds are threatened by high levels of phosphorous, and the groundwater from our sole source aquifer used for drinking is compromised from these dangers. Utilizing education, monitoring, mitigation and advocacy, the Barnstable Clean Water Coalition is working to address the threats to our waters in the 75-plus square miles of the Town of Barnstable.
Learn about the new generation of water conservation advocacy led by the Coalition. This lecture will present the restoration plan for the Marstons Mills River to address the water quality problems caused by excessive nitrogen in the Three Bays Watershed. This innovative plan includes a range of strategies including aquaculture, pond dredging, wetlands restoration, and alternative septic system technologies.
Admission is free. Registration is appreciated.
